What is being calculated

SSA states that the ordinary appeal period is 60 days after receipt. When an actual receipt date is not supplied, SSA ordinarily presumes receipt five days after the date on the notice.

SSA policy also describes a next-workday adjustment when the calculated period ends on a weekend or federal nonworkday. The notice remains the controlling case-specific source.
