How to Find a Disability Attorney or Representative
General information about disability representatives, fee arrangements, credentials, and public directories.
Licensed attorneys and qualified non-attorney representatives may assist with SSDI and SSI applications, appeals, record review, and hearings. Services and experience vary.
Common Services
A representative may review the claim file, gather records, manage appeal procedure, prepare for a hearing, question experts, and communicate with SSA.
Fees and Expenses
Many representatives use an SSA-approved fee agreement tied to past-due benefits. Other arrangements may require SSA approval. Medical-record charges and other expenses can be separate from the representative's fee.
SSA publishes current fee rules and caps. A written agreement should identify services, fees, expenses, and who will handle the matter.
Public Directories
Credentials and disciplinary status can be checked through the licensing state's official bar directory. No representative can guarantee approval.
This page provides general information about locating representation. DocketBuddy does not select counsel or receive a fee based on a client or outcome.
